Diamond Apartment Homes in Anaheim, Calif., an innovative, cost-effective solution in the fight to help end long-term homelessness in California, recently celebrated its grand opening. Located at 1310 W. Diamond Street, Diamond is a pioneering green multifamily development that provides both housing and mental health supportive services for previously homeless individuals and their families in Orange County. Designed by KTGY, Diamond is developed by Jamboree Housing Corporation, a leading California nonprofit housing developer, and H.O.M.E.S., Inc. (Helping Our Mentally Ill Experience Success), in conjunction with the City of Anaheim, Anaheim Housing Authority, and Anaheim Redevelopment Agency. American Institute of Architects Selects KKE as National Honoree for its Diversity Recognition Program
KKE Architects is one of 12 national honorees of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA’s) first annual Diversity Recognition Program. KKE was selected for its Architectural Youth Program, an after-school educational outreach and mentorship program dedicated to ensuring that high-school students from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds achieve an appreciation of architecture and related design fields. Introduced in KKE’s headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn. 14 years ago, the AYP has flourished under the sponsorship and leadership of KKE, and has impacted the lives of more than 300 culturally diverse high school students, including students of color, young women, and those who might not otherwise be exposed to the design arts. KTGY GROUP has received national recognition for the design of Nuevo Amanecer Apartments, an affordable, workforce housing community in Pajaro, CA developed and built by South County Community Builders of Gilroy, CA. KTGY’s distinguished design maintains the sense of community and interaction among the residents, including patios and balconies, a long central paseo with benches anchored by a large community room on one end and a tot-lot with barbecue and picnic area on the other end. The six-building project is 100 percent affordable for incomes 60 percent or less below median family income (MFI). The Center for Community Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley selected Nuevo Amanecer Apartments as a finalist for the 2009 I.
