Travel Website Offers a ‘Novel’ Idea to Budding Authors

With young and old travelers alike donning their backpacks and creating their own adventures across the globe, a travel website wants to hear those stories – well at least part of them, for their First Travel Book-in-Progress Award.

July 18, 2006 (FPRC) -- With the world becoming a seemingly scarier place to travel, an innovative travel website wants to promote cultural enlightenment and understanding through literature. In a ‘novel’ contest, they are offering a worthwhile incentive to travelers who are willing to put their far-flung tales to paper – and under scrutiny.

As travelers search for either the most remote destinations or the greatest beaches, it is often that they put their words to paper, but never show anyone. While this might include journals or scribbles in a notebook, Thomas Hollowell, Managing Editor of a PDF e-magazine entitled Journey Beyond Travel at htt://www.journeybeyondtravel.com says, “Traveler’s are often natural writers. Most often, they have something worthwhile and experiential to share with the world.”

Journey Beyond Travel’s First Travel Book-in-Progress accepts works of nonfiction, poetry, or short stories for their contest. And, if the US$1000.00 dollar award isn’t enticing enough, rights will also be granted to use the Journey Beyond Travel’s, ‘Travel-Book-of-the-Year’ seal on the book cover at the time of publication. The winner will also have the piece partially published in the travel website’s free, quarterly e-magazine, which takes on a new travel theme each issue.

“All we need are the first 25-pages of the work to see where it stands. The book doesn’t even have to be complete,” says Mr. Hollowell. “We have already collected several published authors and writing critics to look at each and every work we receive. We plan to have up to 200 entries in our first year alone.” He continues, “When the final winning work is chosen, it will be interesting to see if it makes it to the shelves.”

Even with the small entry fee, the contest is both innovative and creative – something that Journey Beyond Travel is looking for from its authors. So, if you are in need of travel funds, put your quill to the test as you try your hand at this ‘novel’ endeavor.
