August 7, 2006 (FPRC) -- A four-day, in-water boat show scheduled for April 2007 is being billed as the single largest event ever to be held in Washington, North Carolina, and promoters are already seeking support and input from the public.
The full scale, in-water boat show will take place on the waterfront of Washington, North Carolina next April 26 – 29, 2007. The four day event will encompass one day for the marine trade and three days of open exhibitions with a wide variety of family activities.
The historic waterfront of the ‘original’ Washington provides ample space for in-water boat exhibits, expansive public space for complimenting activities including informational seminars and children’s interests in a scenic backdrop of marine history along the Pamlico River.
"Washington was the busiest waterfront community in North Carolina 150 years ago. This show will bring that maritime heritage back to life and simultaneously create new maritime activities that will benefit the local community, Beaufort County and boat manufacturers - one of eastern North Carolina’s largest industries", says Kent Fulton, President of 'Downtown Washington on the Waterfront (DWOW)'. DWOW is a National Main Street corporation which undertakes a variety of activities to revitalize the downtown area.
North Carolina is home to over 100 boat manufacturers, and the event hopes to draw people from this state as well as South Carolina and Virginia.
“It is the most significant and largest event ever to come to Washington, and will brand Washington as a yachting and boating destination,” said Cam Padgett, chairman of the promotions committee.
