October 14, 2006 (FPRC) -- Police-Writers.com, a website dedicated to police officers turned authors, added five NYPD writers: Philip Bulone, Kathy Burke, Marie Cirile, Bill Clark and Joseph Coffey.

Retired New York Police Department Detective Philip Bulone, a Certified Addiction Prevention Professional turned drug counselor is available to talk with individuals or groups about their own or a loved one's addiction. Bulone's straight forward, reality based approach to substance abuse counseling and education has helped change the lives of hundreds of individuals. The author of two books (Grey Shades of Blue and
One Cop's View on our Kids in Crisis) and numerous articles on the topic of substance abuse and the war on drugs. Bulone has worked with a variety of populations including those involved in the criminal justice system, the homeless, adults, adolescents, and senior citizens.

In 1968, 1 percent of the New York Police Department was female. When Kathy Burke joined the NYPD's ranks in June of that year she was one of only ten women in a class of 950 recruits. But the determined Burke had no doubt that she was born to be a cop, and in her twenty-three-year career she rose to be the most highly decorated female detective in the NYPD's history. “Detective: The Inspirational Story of the Trailblazing Woman Cop Who Wouldn't Quit” is her story.

By turns caustic, funny, and matter-of-fact, Kathy Burke describes what it was like for a young woman to be surrounded by often hostile male officers and the uphill battle she fought to prove herself and earn their respect. But earn it she did. From her beginnings as an undercover cop making drug buys on New York's most dangerous streets to posing as Mrs. Patz to capture extortionists in the Etan Patz case to investigating the Mafia, Burke worked in some of the NYPD's most elite units on its most high-profile cases, eventually rising to the rank of detective first grade, the very highest in the detective bureau.

According to an Amazon reviewer, in “Detective Marie Cirile: Memoirs of a police officer,” “Marie Cirile pens an autobiography about life as one of the first female vice detectives in Manhattan in the 1960's. She delivers a compelling personal story with a subtle writing style which makes for a wonderful read and excellent research material.

Bill Clark was a Police Officer on the New York Police Department for 25 years, including 17 years in homicide. He retired as a 1st Grade Detective. During his career he worked on a number of high-profile cases including the Son of Sam and mafia related cases. After retiring from NYPD he became an executive producer of the popular television crime drama, NYPD Blue. His book, “True Blue” is a behind the scenes look at NYPD Blue.

Joseph Coffey retired from the NYPD in 1985 and went on to become the principal investigator of the New York State Organized Crime Task Force. Joseph He is the author of “The Coffey Files: One Cop's War Against the Mob.”

Police-Writers.com hosts 155 police officers and their 439 books in six categories.
