Two authors close in on 500 books
Police-Writers.com, a website dedicated to police officers turned authors, has added three police authors Barry Horney, James Hawkins and Craig Roberts.

October 18, 2006 (FPRC) -- Police-Writers.com, a website dedicated to police officers turned authors, has added three police authors Barry Horney, James Hawkins and Craig Roberts.
Barry Horney joined New York City Transit Police Department on November 28, 1967. Upon graduation from the Transit Police Academy, he was assigned to District Number One; located at 59th Street on the IND & IRT in Mid-Manhattan. According to Barry, “Although every police officer feels his precinct or district is the best, I believe it was acknowledged that District Number One was the premier district of the Transit Police Department. Manhattan is a thriving metropolis and District Number One was right in the middle. There were numerous restaurants, movie houses, Broadway and TV shows plus famous landmarks. Yes, if you enjoyed people, this was the place to be a police officer.” Barry Horney’s book, “On the Job” is a collection of vignettes about his days on the New York Transit Police.
Craig Roberts joined the Tulsa Police Department in August of 1969. His first assignment Patrol Division. In 1971, a new unit was formed called the "TAC Squad," which was Tulsa's first "SWAT" type special operations team. Roberts was selected because of his Vietnam combat experience; and, his training as a sniper and with explosives. Lacking federal funding TAC disbanded in 1973 and the police officers, including Craig Roberts, were returned to field duties. In 1977 he was transferred to the Fugitive Warrants Squad. In 1978, Roberts transferred to Police Community Relations where he served for three years as one of the police department's public relations officers. In 1981 he became the department's "Press Release Officer" and had extensive contact with reporters. Craig Roberts has written eleven books with titles like: “Kill Zone: A Sniper Looks at Dealey Plaza,” “The Medusa File” and “Combat Medic – Vietnam: They went to war to fight – for life.”
In addition to two American Police Writers, an international Police Writer from England, retired District Police Commander, James Hawkins has been added. Hawkins weaves more than thirty years of police and private investigation experience into his novels and plays. While he was born in rural southern England James has spent much of his life traveling, and today he splits his time between Vancouver Island in the Pacific, Ontario, England and France. In addition to being a senior police officer, James is also an experienced actor, television presenter and educator and, before taking up writing full-time in 1996, James was Director of Education at the Institute for Environmental Investigations in Toronto. James Hawkins has written nine books which range from police procedural novels to “The Canadian Private Investigator’s Manual.”
