November 28, 2006 (FPRC) -- A local content directory portal, http://www.tips.com.my , has recently implemented a system that utilizes YouTube videos extensively throughout the site, with the aim of providing rich multimedia content to its readers.

Using a customized system, each of the videos is dynamically targeted to the content articles of the website.

While the videos were positioned in a strategic way alongside the contextual advertisement such as Google Ad sense, the use of such technique has somehow improved the click through rate of the ads themselves.

“I’ve been seeing quite a substantial increase in the clickthrough rate ever since I’ve implemented the videos alongside the ads.”, says Sunny Tan, the owner of Tips.com.my

When asked how he came up with the idea, he adds, “I’ve always wanted to improve the site usability and having these educational videos in place not only will enhance the readers online reading pleasure, but also will encourage higher visits duration to the site. So getting YouTube videos onboard was the best decision.”

This technique has somehow cause quite a controversial stir especially among the bloggers and webmasters.

Says one of the prominent full time blogger, “I guess the question to ask is where Adsense allows such placement?”.

“The rule of placing a visual barrier between the ads and images could seem to effect on the Videos as well, although the videos often come with own visual controls which set it apart from the ads,” he comments.

Another webmaster says, “I don’t think Google permits this tactics wholeheartedly. This has evolved from placing images adjacent to Adsense ads.”

While the use of videos may be a great deal to some, Sunny Tan cautions that any copyrighted videos or content should not be used alongside Adsense on the website, as this will be against the terms of service from the program.

“Just be careful when using the videos, to avoid any copyright violations.”, pointed Sunny. He also advice on using targeted videos on the content so as not to confuse the readers.
