Mom's on a Matchmaking Mission of Literacy
Cynthia Brian's Be the Star You Are! a youth non-profit in San Francisco and its partner The Reading Tub, Inc., a literacy non-profit in Charlottesville, VA ,have just been featured on KGO/ABC-7 in San Francisco. The local piece ran nationally on Good Morning America on GMA Easter Sunday.

April 10, 2007 (FPRC) -- This is the story about two moms, on separate (US) coasts, whose passion for making a LASTING difference for kids and literacy brought them together.
Cynthia Brian (Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul, actress, radio host) created Be the Star You Are! a youth non-profit in San Francisco to get kids interested in reading. Their motto: to be a leader you must be a reader.
Terry Doherty, founder of The Reading Tub, Inc. (Charlottesville, VA) turned her personal love of reading into a website and non-profit that helps parents/teachers find great books to share with their children, and donates books around the country. Every book in The Tub is shared with a child and Reading Tub(r) progiles include their opinion. After they are reviewed, teh books are then donated to organizations supporting children's literacy.
In March 2004, Terry and Cynthia combined their energies and created a partnership. Be the Star You Are! created a Teen Book Review Team, known as the Teen STAR Review team. The Reading Tub sends books for kids 8 to 12 to Be the Star You Are! The STAR Review Team writes the reviews and Terry posts them on the Reading Tub(r) Web site. We've had great success getting kids interested in reading ... and making it relevant!
The partnership was just featured on KGO/ABC-7 in San Francisco as part of a Salute to Cynthia Brian's work. The piece ran again on GMA Easter Sunday.
