May 1, 2007 (FPRC) -- American Air & Water®, Inc. announces that the ACP UV air cleaners have been replaced by the improved DC (Duct Cleaners) in-duct air disinfection UV systems. The new UV systems come in two- and four-lamp configurations and utilize SBL high output UV lamps, which have an effective life of 17,000 hours. Utilizing the long life high output UV lamps gives our products a competitive advantage and will increase customer satisfaction.

The key new features are:

 Long life lamps – effective for 17,000 hours
 High UV intensity - 11.6 UV µW/cm² sec @1m per inch of lamp length
 Stainless steel moisture proof construction

The new UV systems are well suited for applications in public buildings, hospitals and other health care facilities for air disinfection. UV germicidal irradiation of the air ducts and the air stream reduces spreading of infections, especially those that have an airborne route of transmission. Tests reveal that the disinfected indoor air can have a microbial count lower than that of outdoor air. UV Duct Cleaners have proved necessary in food plants, pharmaceutical production and laboratories.

Germicidal UV or UVC has 253.7nm wavelength and is proven to kill airborne germs that transmit infections from person to person within buildings. The effectiveness of germicidal UV depends on exposure time and UV intensity. Germicidal UV has been used effectively for more than 60 years and is becoming more and more important in today's airtight indoor environments. The new technological advancements are reflected in the DC UV systems. The long life UV lamps will reduce the operation and maintenance costs associated with the UV systems.
