Debt Settlement Company Joins “American Idol” in Fighting World Poverty

Debt Shield helps to raise funds for world poverty through its donation to “Idol Gives Back.”

May 21, 2007 (FPRC) -- Employees at Debt Shield, a Maryland-based debt settlement company, are sending their next donation to the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, which helps impoverished children by funding organizations that provide health and education programs for children.

The Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) joined the hit FOX TV series “American Idol” in a two-night fundraising television event entitled “Idol Gives Back.” The event organizers will use the funds to fight extreme poverty in Africa and the United States. Debt Shield Administration Director Latisha Nelson chose this event because she wanted her and her fellow employees to be a part of a nationally organized effort to affect positive change.

“It warms my heart when pop culture uses its influence to raise awareness and funds for important issues like poverty,” said Director of Talent Development Jill Strider. “And through our team’s diversity and enthusiasm, we are proud to find new and interesting ways to contribute to these worthwhile causes.”

During the event, held on April 24 and 25 and which raised over $60 million, the six top American Idol finalists preformed “Life Anthems” -- songs about compassion and hope. Following the performances, viewers voted for their favorite and sponsors donated money to CPEF for every vote cast.

Debt Shield’s donation was made possible by the “Denim Fund,” an employee-driven charitable fund that accumulates donations every time a Debt Shield employee wears blue jean to work on Fridays.
