June 1, 2007 (FPRC) -- Following in the footsteps of her great-grandfather, Sheriff Paul Berthelot, Sheriff of St. John the Baptist Parish, and that of her father, who was president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. Two in the late 1950s, Dee Dee Serpas became a Police Officer. First with the East Jefferson Levee Board Police, she also joined the Kenner Police Department and was the only female to graduate from the academy that year. Later, she joined the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office as a street cop. This makes her the only known female in Louisiana to have held three peace officer commissions by the age of 21.

Dee Dee Serpas' new book, Behind the Badge in Atchafalaya Swamp: Welcome to the Atchafalaya Swamp Police Department, tells a moving story of the human beings behind the badge. Drawing strongly from her personal experiences, Dee Dee explores love and loss in the Bayous of Louisiana. In the unique environment of Louisiana cities, towns, bayous and swamps, her characters serve the community in front of the badge, but behind the badge they live, love and mourn.

Dee Dee Serpas is a regular contributor to Police-Writers.com. In addition to obtaining more information about her book, you can read her articles at www.police-writers.com/dee_dee_serpas.html.

Police-Writers.com now hosts 560 police officers (representing 234 police departments) and their 1179 books in six categories, there are also listings of United States federal law enforcement employees turned authors, international police officers who have written books and civilian police personnel who have written books.
