June 29, 2007 (FPRC) -- OneIndia.in, a portal committed to developing regional content, launched OneBookmarks.com, the first bookmarking website with language options in English and 5 different Indian languages - including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada & Malayalam.

“Our aim is to bridge the gap between growing number of Tier-II or Regional Internet users and the surging amount of localized content available on the Internet," said Sriram Hebbar, CCO, Greynium Information Pvt. Ltd., as OneIndia launched the multilingual social bookmarking site: OneBookmarks.

According to a recent study by JuxtConsult, 41% of urban Internet users in India (30 million) prefer reading content in local language. While the DoT is aiming to connect 1,00,000 villages through broadband by 2010, .IN domain registrations have already reached the 2,00,000 mark. These figures signify that there will be immense demand for content in local language and more such regional content is going to be developed in the days to come.

“While some of the Search Engines are introducing localized search facilities, creating a common area for storing searched local content was imperative,” said Sriram.

OneBookmarks.com will be a common place for all users to store interesting and useful online resources, websites, stories, articles and posts. The unique feature is that, the users can save URL’s and add description or tags in either English or Regional [Unicode] text using phonetic or inscript language keyboard method.

While users share their bookmarks, other viewers will be able to search through the English/Regional language [Unicode] tags, rate the stories/articles and even discuss it with other individuals or friends.
