July 9, 2007 (FPRC) --
Childcareboard.org officially launches its site today and with it an ambitious effort to create the world's largest central database of educational and child care resources.
The site was created by Adam Campbell and Erin O'Donnell, each with over twenty years experience working with children. Campbell has also worked in the software industry.
"It's pretty clear there's a need for one central place for people to find this information. You do a search on Google and it's so scattered. All these different state agencies, all these different web sites trying to sell you something," says Erin O'Donnell, who also runs a small child care program in western Massachusetts.
The founders of childcareboard.org say they were inspired by the simple effectiveness of craigslist.org. "Why couldn't we do the same thing for the child care world?" says Adam Campbell. "One free, central resource for all child care needs. This would include schools- public and private, after-school programs, camps, children's classes and workshops, nannies, au pairs, even babysitters. Why not have all this information in one place?" Child care providers don't have the time or money, he says, to spend looking for publicity. "We want to fill in where no government agency can."
Currently, childcareboard.org is broken down by state and region, with subcategories for After-school Programs, Au Pairs and Nannies, Babysitters, Camps and Summer Programs, Childcare Exchange, Children's Workshops and Classes, Licensed Family Day Care, Offices and Services, Private Schools, and Public Schools.
"We invite all child care providers to list their services on our site," says Erin O'Donnell. "There is no fee, and you don't have to register. It's incredibly quick and easy."
Adam Campbell and Erin O'Donnell reside in western Massachusetts with their son, dog, cat, rabbit, and two fish. They are currently awaiting the referral of a new daughter from China.
