11th Annual Native American Festival
Celebration of Native American culture on September 15 & 16 in Ridgefield, Connecticut

August 27, 2007 (FPRC) -- The 11th Annual Native American Festival is coming to Ridgefield 's Ballard Park the weekend of September 15 & 16, and will be open from 10am until 6pm, rain or shine. This educational, cultural, family event will feature entertainment by two prominent Native American musicians -- Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Joanne Shenandoah and multi-Native American Music Award winner Joseph Firecrow. Among the other attractions will be performances featuring Iroquois & pow wow style dancing. Children's activities will be held in the teepee village, and a teepee-raising demonstration will occur at 10:15 each day. A special presentation will be held by White Panther, who will speak about the uses of artifacts. Visitors will have the opportunity to try some traditional Native American foods like corn soup, fry bread, buffalo burgers, venison and chili. Vendors will offer a variety of items from paintings to traditional and contemporary silver jewelry. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day by artists working in a variety of traditional media, including stone, bone and clay in the design of sculpture, and the use of deerskin to make clothing. Fine art will be on exhibit and available for purchase. Admission: $8.00 adults, $5.00 seniors and children 6-12, kids under 6 get in free. Family rates are also available.
