Aid the 'Help Stefan' Campaign for Sierra Leonian Refugees

Stefan Doris and her son Zogo are two of Africa's 'forgotten refugees'. They escaped from the conflicts of Liberia and Sierra Leone to Senegal where they are stateless and with no political status. They can earn no income and the world has forgotten their plight. Help them put their lives back together.

September 1, 2007 (FPRC) -- Stefan Doris and her son Zogo are just two of the Liberian/Sierra Leonian refugees currently in Dakar, Senegal. They escaped the civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone during the early 2000s. Like many of these refugees both Stefan and Zogo contracted malaria whilst escaping throug Guinea on her way to the relative safety of Senegal. Yet, as refugees they have no legal status in Senegal and can earn no income there. They are therefore entirely dependent on handouts and live a hand-to-mouth existence. Like most of the refugees Stefan has been sorely abused during the past seven years and believed her entire family to be dead. Her mother and brothers are gone but she has just discovered that her father is alive, but gravely ill in hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

This campaign aims to help re-unite Stefan with her father, gaining safe passage for her to Freetown. Also the aim is to raise sufficient money that her father can have potentially life-saving heart surgery. Donations to this campaign will allow Stefan and Zogo to re-build their lives, to come to the UK and to start afresh with a new life and new horizons. It will get them both professional medical help and will provide them with a new life. Donations above and beyond these requirements will go directly to the Liberian community in Dakar, to give them a safety net as a community and to re-open the English school that the UN used to run and which has now closed.

Your donations will make a real difference to people who have suffered so much already. It will give them new hope and a new life.
