September 29, 2007 (FPRC) --

On Monday, October 1, Max Elliot Anderson will post a sample chapter from one of his action-adventures or mysteries, written especially for boys 8 – 13. Mr. Anderson grew up hating to read. “Now I write the kinds of books I would have enjoyed as a child,” he said.

Each chapter will come from one of his seven published books. “It’s an opportunity for children, teachers, and parents to get an idea of what my books are all about.”

These chapters can be located on his blog, Books for Boys, at http://booksandboys.blogspot.com

Chapters will come from NEWSPAPER CAPER, TERROR AT WOLF LAKE, NORTH WOODS POACHERS, MOUNTAIN CABIN MYSTERY, BIG RIG RUSTLERS, SECRET OF ABBOTT'S CAVE & LEGEND OF THE WHITE WOLF, which are compared by readers and reviewers to Tom Sawyer, The Hardy Boys, Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, Scooby-Doo, Lemony Snicket, and adventure author Jack London.

“I’m interested in getting more boys to read,” Anderson said. “There is a tremendous need to write books that will capture and hold their attention. I believe I’ve written books like that.”

Others agree.

A mother recently wrote, conc3erning her reluctant reader son, “I love the way you write and make us want to read on! By the third book, he didn't wait on me anymore! He was off in his room reading away all by himself! I feel like I owe his success of reading to you. YOU gave him the love of reading!”

Another parent said, “I can't believe it…as the concerned mother of two struggling readers (boys ages 13 & 16)…who is also the daughter of a children's librarian…I think I have purchased EVERY book recommended for reluctant readers. HOWEVER, they have ALL fallen short UNTIL today. We were able to purchase Newspaper Caper and we're hooked !!! I can't thank you enough for your efforts. I actually think I caught my husband listening too!!!”

Not only are his books written to appeal to boys, they look different. “The type is larger,” Anderson said. “You won’t find huge blocks of words. I use shorter sentences, with lots of dialog, and humor. The pages are of higher quality with plenty of white space, so readers won’t lose their place on the page. And most chapters end with a cliffhanger.”

These books appeal to girls as well. Anderson believes that once young readers read one of these sample chapters, they’ll want more. “I’m going to post a new chapter, from a different book, every Monday from October 1 through November 12.”

“And remember,” Anderson concluded with a smile, “Christmas isn’t that far away.”
