November 20, 2007 (FPRC) -- Rajini has once again ascertained his Super Star status! His latest film ‘Sivaji’ has just completed 150 days at the box office and fans are celebrating their hero’s power at the box office. What’s more remarkable is that the movie is still recording full-house run in the theatres.

Looking into the background of the movie, we see the masters behind the making of ‘Sivaji’. This mega hit was directed by Shankar. Musical score and soundtrack were done by maestro A.R. Rahman, with lyrics coming in from Vairamuthu, Vali, and Pa Vijay. It was AVM's 168th venture and superstar Rajini’s ninth film with AVM. Incidentally it was also Shankar's ninth directorial venture. Rajini’s count on the success of number nine proved right for everyone involved in the film. Released in 18 theatres in Chennai, it is reported to have fetched an astounding Rs. 1.35 crores in a mere four-day run after release, setting a record that no other Tamil movie had ever achieved so far. It is also the first Tamil movie to come on top in UK and South Africa. It has made excellent screening in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Gulf countries. Sivaji was released simultaneously in Telugu also.

What was so different in this movie? What set it apart from other movies releasing at the same time? What sets it apart from Rajini’s other movies? The answer to all these questions lies in one word: innovation. It is a meeting of great minds. The movie itself is the best brainchild of the stalwarts in the tinsel world. Hence, the result: a grandiose, remarkable and one-of-its-kind movie! First, it is the extensive effort in innovative make up. Second, it is the compelling story. The third and the final thing is the stylish and trendy character of Rajini.

Director Shankar took exceptional care with regard to the character of Sivaji. His crew members were advised to watch all of Rajini’s movies with an eye on his make-up and style. They came to the conclusion that Rajinikanth’s hairstyle in ‘Padikkadhavan’ (1985) was the best. The artist who did makeup for that film was summoned to do the same in ‘Sivaji’ and this step came out with tremendous success as is seen in Rajini’s youthful appearance throughout the film. In order to enhance his looks, a French make-up artist was flown in and stayed in India throughout the film’s working. Rajini dons 15 different attires throughout the film, all of which show him in all youthfulness and star quality. Costumes were done by none other than famous North Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
