November 28, 2007 (FPRC) -- A Facebook group set up to raise awareness about 5 year-old Jack Brown, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer, has grown to nearly 1,500 members.
Other awareness and fundraising efforts include the launch of a song entitled ‘Thanks for Loving Me’ by Phil Ryan. The song has been released by the 2Simple Trust who are helping several children suffering from neuroblastoma, the condition affecting Jack. The song can be downloaded for £1.95 by visiting the 2Simple Trust and following the links to the Jack Brown Appeal.
Neuroblastoma is a solid tumour cancer, which spreads rapidly. According to cancerbackup.org.uk, fewer than 100 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the UK each year. Most children who get this cancer are younger than five years old.
Neuroblastoma is a cancer of specialised nerve cells, called neural crest cells. These cells are involved in the development of the nervous system and other tissues.
Neuroblastoma can occur anywhere in the body, but most often occurs in the adrenal gland in the abdomen (tummy). The adrenal glands are specialised glands, which are found above the kidneys. They release hormones to maintain blood pressure, and enable us to respond to stress.
In some children, the neuroblastoma can occur in nerve tissue in the neck, chest, or around the spinal cord.
There is currently no Government funding for treatment and the 2Simple Trust is helping Jack, his parents, both Detective Sergeants at the Metropolitan Police, as well as his brother Connor, 10, and sister Rhian, 7, in their battle with this disease.
