January 16, 2008 (FPRC) -- Cancer patients, survivors, friends and family of those afflicted with cancer, will now benefit from a new “one stop” destination on the Internet allowing them to collaborate and research information on cancer, treatments, side effects, and more.

Advantages for users of of the Cancer Support Network include:

• A member’s only cancer research library
• Peer collaboration through chat rooms, email, and Instant Messaging,
• Friend lists, blogging, profile comments,
• Your own URL to share with friends and family
(www.cancersupportnet.com/profile_name)

The CancerSupportNet.com is a social network with the sole purpose of providing a collaboration and research platform for those wishing to learn more about the disease and treatments of different cancers. Users simply create their profile when they sign up and they can begin blogging, researching, searching for others, and collaborating. The service is free for users, and is ad-supported for scaling the network as more users join.

"We saw a clear need in the community for a resource that allowed those to connect locally or globally to share information, learn from one another, and to provide a single Internet source for research as well," said Jack Brandt, President for Social Sciences Net, LLC.

Statistics show that 80 percent of Internet users have searched for medical information online, for themselves or another person according to the Pew Internet Life Project. The Cancer Support Network was created to enhance their research also giving them a community they could thrive in.

While the Cancer Support Network is a social network, it differs from other social sites because it’s focused on one mission: to provide a feature rich platform so that users can effectively express themselves while researching and connecting with others like them.
