Charter School Offers Top Technology for Parents

Global Village Academy is utilizing the latest technologies to increase their leaders’ efficiency and provide great communication to parents.

February 2, 2008 (FPRC) -- First year charter school, Global Village Academy, adds an additional cutting edge plan to their already innovative education style. The school offers language immersion in three world languages, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and French. They feature International Baccalaureate curriculum. From the start, as parents’ commitment to their children’s education, school enrollment involves parents offering 30 hours of volunteer service to the school. And now, Principal Christina Burton and Vice Principal Debra Mitchell Salih have found yet another way to bring innovation to their school.

“As I was considering how I could best be an asset to the school while fulfilling my volunteer commitment, I considered my professional work and decided if I could donate my skills as a online and offline Success Coach, it would be an easy fit for me and very valuable to the school. The leaders at the school were open to the idea, so we began crafting a plan.” stated Michael Frazier, parent at Global Village Academy.

The first order of business was to set up an AskChristina.org website. The website is designed for parents to ask any question and the Principal to have the ability to address everyone collectively in a one hour call each week, so all parents can be informed of school happenings and the Principal can experience greater communication efficiency. In addition to having the ability to submit a question 24/7, the weekly call is recorded, so if a parent is unable to listen at the time of the interview call, they have the choice of hearing the call from their computer or even download it to their Mp3 players and listen on the go. This forum shows an openness that has never been seen in a Charter School or Public School before. This form of open communication and commitment to the parents on a weekly basis insures that they will have their questions addressed and is a great time management tool for both the Principal and the Vice Principal.

Michael Frazier conducts the Ask Christina interview calls and added, “I won’t allow her (Principal Christina Burton) to avoid the question. I have a vested interest in her answers, because my daughter attends the school. This brings a win-win concept to school communication. And all the parents have access to the same information.”
