February 26, 2008 (FPRC) -- For the fourth consecutive year, Railinc successfully completed a Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) 70 Type II examination. More stringent than a Type I examination, the Type II audit includes detailed testing of the organization's internal controls.

The SAS 70 Type II report demonstrates that the company's controls have been suitably designed and have been placed in operation for securing and protecting data exchanges with Railinc customers. Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a SAS 70 report is intended for a service organization's management, its user organizations and the independent auditors of the user organizations. It provides information, and an independent assessment of a service organization's specified controls, as they relate to processing of transactions in connection with audits of financial statements.

"We are focused on providing systems with the highest standards of quality and security," says Allen West, Railinc President and CEO. "The recent SAS 70 audit confirms that we consistently meet or exceed industry standard processes for protecting and securing our systems and customer data."

The process examined the integrity and security of Railinc's systems, including an extensive assessment of internal controls in operations for the period October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. Railinc's systems, procedures and controls critical to processing information and millions of confidential financial transactions were thoroughly evaluated. Specifically, the following four systems were examined: the Railroad Clearinghouse (RCH), the Interline Settlement System (ISS), the Rate EDI Network (REN), and the Liability Continuity System (LCS). Additionally, physical and logical security measures, network access and monitoring, systems development, change management and customer service were also assessed.
