March 16, 2008 (FPRC) -- City Chevrolet, leading dealer for Chevrolet in Charlotte, is pleased to announce that the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid has been named by Green Car Journal as the Green Car of the Year for 2008. Green Car Journal, which presented the award at a press conference in Los Angeles on November 15, 2007, has been spear-heading efforts since 1992 towards promotion of environmental progress by the automobile industry.
Chevrolet feels this achievement is a feather in its cap, because the Tahoe Hybrid was not only the cleanest car of the year; its fuel consumption was better by almost 30 percent compared to other vehicles in its class. The 6.0-liter two-mode Hybrid’s mileage is better than the Tahoe’s own 5.3-liter V-8 and is almost on par with that of standard sedans. Moreover, this is also the first full-size V8 SUV to use this technology; a fact that Chevrolet feels could alter the SUV market dramatically, giving consumers the best combination of power and fuel economy.
The jury consisted of some big names from the environmental and automobile industries. The choice of brands for the final selection was narrowed to five, after some stringent parameters were applied, important among which was application of the new environment-friendly technology into other products from the company.
