April 24, 2008 (FPRC) -- Dr. Robert Lechleider, Associate Director at MedImmune will be speaking at GTCbio’s 2nd Annual Rediscovering Biomarkers Conference on July 10-11, 2008 in Boston, MA. Dr. Lechleider will present on “Biomarkers in Oncology Drug Development: The Road to Shangri-La?”
Much hype has surrounded the use of biomarkers to speed the approval process in drug development. This is especially evident in oncology, where clinical endpoints can take months or years to meet, and the use of biomarkers to expedite trial completion and regulatory approval has been highly touted. But biomarkers have not yet delivered on the promises their supporters have made for them. Few biomarkers have been incorporated into clinical trials in a successful manner. Using biomarkers effectively requires the understanding of how they should be incorporated into clinical trial design, including understanding the different types of biomarkers, how to incorporate various biomarkers into clinical trial design, what regulatory considerations the FDA and other agencies will use, and how best to integrate the best scientific approach with a sound regulatory strategy.
The 2nd Annual Rediscovering Biomarkers Conference will expose attendees to the latest advancements and developments in biomarkers and predictive medicine. Attendees will gain insight into discovery and development processes, hear about new biomarkers and upcoming trends in the industry, as well as the status of those in clinical trials.
