Founder of Leading International Tutoring Agency Tutors International Calls for a Review of the Recent Home Schooling Judgment Made in California.

May 22, 2008 (FPRC) -- A recent ruling from the 2nd Appellate State Court in Los Angeles has deemed it compulsory for all teachers of home schooled children in California to have state teaching credentials. It has been estimated that this affects the home schooling of approximately 166,000 children in California, currently home educated by parents who do not have credentialed status. The ruling caused such statewide outrage that the court has agreed to rehear the case, with oral arguments scheduled to be heard in June.

Adam Caller of Tutors International, a leading provider of full-time private tutors in America and around the world said "I was dismayed to hear about this ruling, as I believe that the Californian State Court is missing the point here. Forcing everyone that home schools their child to have credentialed status is not going to have any real beneficial impact on the education of the child. If this ruling stands, all it effectively constitutes is an administrative hoop for someone to jump through, with no other guarantees on the part of the state that the home tutor is actually delivering a decent home education." Adam continued, "What really needs to happen is a system of actively monitoring the home education of the child, to ensure that they are getting high quality education regardless of the credentialed status of the person home schooling them."

When asked if this ruling had any impact on his international tutor agency, Adam replied "None whatsoever. All of our private teachers that work in America already have credentialed status, a policy that has been in place long before this case came to court. We endeavor to find the right private teacher for a particular family, and take great care to ensure that all of our full-time private tutors provide excellent home education. This ruling has an impact on families that do not outsource the home schooling of their children, rather than our clients who come to us to find private teachers on their behalf."
