Surf Club Ocean Grille Ranks Among Top 50 Restaurants in the Region by Hampton Roads Magazine
Virginia Beach culinary judges announced Surf Club Ocean Grille as one of the Top 50 are restaurants based on food quality, service, and appearance.

May 28, 2008 (FPRC) -- VIRGINIA BEACH -- Hampton Roads Magazine recently released its annual Platinum Plates listing, ranking the Surf Club Ocean Grille as one of the top 50 restaurants of the more than 2,000 area restaurants in Virginia Beach.
Surf Club Ocean Grille (http://www.surfclubvabeach.com), located at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Hotel, is among the newest Virginia Beach oceanfront restaurants. The combination of a diverse and tasty menu, an extensive wine selection, and stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, left a lasting impression on the panel of judges who remembered their visit as ‘a truly an amazing dining experience.’
The restaurant’s name evolved from the history of the beachfront property – one with a rich history dating back to the thirties and forties. During the Golden Era, Big Band Leaders such as Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller brought their big musical sounds to the sandy shores of Virginia Beach. To commemorate its swinging past, the Surf Club Ocean Grille offers a contemporary casual yet elegant comfort atmosphere, delectable cuisine, and a spectacular ocean view.
The Hampton Roads Magazine Platinum Plates is compiled annually by a hand-selected panel of Virginia Beach’s top culinary professionals. Restaurants are ranked based on food quality, value (ratio of cost to food quality), service quality, overall appearance, and the likelihood of returning or recommending to others. The judge’s scores are then compiled and results are tallied.
In order to ensure a fair contest and to provide Virginia Beach residents and visitors with the finest selection of top restaurants, Hampton Roads Magazine enforces several rules and restrictions for contest judges. No special consideration is given to advertisers of Hampton Roads Magazine, and none of the judges received any form of compensation from the restaurants. All judges must meet strict criteria to participate in the ranking contest and a new panel is selected each year.
In addition to earning Hampton Roads Magazine’s Platinum Plate, the Surf Club Ocean Grille has received a variety of favorable reviews and esteemed recognitions. Chef Derek Mason took first place for the best plate presentation award for the 2nd Annual CHOW! Benefit Dinner for the Samaritan House, recently held at the Wyndham.
A restaurant reviewer at the Virginia Pilot wrote an impressive review on the seaside restaurant as was quoted as saying, “The Surf Club provides an elegant setting on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and backs up the view with a menu that is well conceived and nicely executed. The combination works to good effect, and I look forward to future visits."
