Revision knee replacement abroad for Briton

Revision Total Knee replacement for British subject in India
Mr.Caroll, head of a construction firm in Norfolk, England has sought revision knee surgery in India for a failed TKR done in the UK done eighteen months ago. He underwent a successful revision knee replacement to restore lost knee bend at a private hospital in Chennai earlier this week. The advanced knee reconstruction was performed by Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam, consultant orthopedic surgeon.
Mr.Caroll’s says that his misadventure with the NHS date back a few years. A few years ago, he lost a finger in his right hand when he developed an MRSA infection following a dog bite. The next one was a recalcitrant infection in his right shoulder after a routine decompression surgery in his shoulder. The last straw was when surgeons at King’s Lynn hospital near Norfolk put in an over sized knee prosthesis eighteen months ago. This caused stuffing of the knee joint and prevented him from regaining normal bending allowing only 70 degrees. This inconvenienced him when climbing stairs and resulted in lot of pain.
He consulted several knee specialists in England to resolve his problem but nobody would give him the right answers. When his appeals to the administrators in England fell on deaf ears, he turned to an Indian surgeon, Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam.
Dr.Venkatachalam took some x rays and promptly located the problem. It was due to a combination of using an oversized prosthesis and faulty technique. He suggested a revision knee replacement which was accepted by Mr.Caroll.
The surgery passed off very well and Mr. Caroll has already got back 90 degrees of knee bend within a week after surgery. The surgery cost him only 6500 UK pounds less than that for a primary knee replacement in the UK which costs 9000 pounds. He will be returning to England next week fully satisfied with his medical tourism trip.
