June 27, 2008 (FPRC) -- Vancouver, BC -- Today a new website was launched inviting Canadians to join Prime Minister Stephen Harper in extending an apology to Canadašs Aboriginal people. Canadians can go to www.iapologize.ca and add their name to a growing list of people who wish to express their personal apology for the harm caused by the Residential School System.

The website is very straight forward and simple to use. There is a picture
Plof the Canadian flag next to a photo from a residential school and the
following text:

On June 11th 2008 the Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, formally apologized to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada in the House of Commons. To honour this sincere expression by the Prime Minister I would like to offer my personal apology and humbly ask your forgiveness for the many abuses suffered by the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada as a result of the residential school system.

Canadians simply enter their name, city and province and add their name to the growing list.

Jack Layton, the leader of the NDP in his apology, "..this apology must not be an end, it must be a beginning."

As we near the celebration of Canada's birthday what better time to begin anew and start with a clear and resounding apology for the injustice of the residential school system and begin to heal and rebuild.
