June 30, 2008 (FPRC) -- Larry A. Blankstein, Senior Director of Clinical Research at Genzyme will be speaking at GTCbio’s Global Clinical Trial Operations conference on September 25-26, 2008 in San Diego, CA. Dr. Blankstein will give a presentation entitled “An Interactive Lessons Learned Process to Optimize Sponsor and Provider Performance on Global Trials.”

Managing team dynamics is key to the successful implementation of global clinical trials. The pressure to complete a trial on time, while coordinating internal global resources makes this difficult. Adding one or multiple Service Providers to the mix compounds this challenge. Constructive collaborative relationships must be managed and maintained not only between internal resources, but between the internal resources and the Service Provider(s) to ensure the project is completed on time, on budget with quality deliverables. There is no guarantee this will happen on it own, but the implantation of a Lessons Learned process can help optimize team performance and be a key component to achieving success. By implementing an interactive lessons learned process at various points in a project can identify project issues, finds solutions to problems while building strong positive relationships between all team members. When implemented correctly, Lessons Learned provides a mechanism to asses how the Provider, Sponsor or the combined team is performing, coordinating activities and working as a team to the mutual benefit of all team members. Dr. Blankstein will provide the benefits of performing Lessons Learned at key time point in a project, present a process for collecting quantitative and qualitative information, explain how to focus on the key project and team issues so the real Lessons Learned are identified and how to summarize the data collected so a productive Lessons Learned meeting can be held.

The Global Clinical Trial Operations conference brings together leaders, directors, vice presidents, heads, managers, supervisors, and CROs from all over the world to collaborate and discuss the latest developments in clinical trial operations and logistics and covers clinical trials in emerging markets, first-in-man clinical trials, pediatric clinical trials, material storage, distribution, site selection, patient recruitment and retention, technology in clinical trials and case studies of running global clinical trials.
