New Study Highlights How Companies Can Release Super-charged Employees (July 2008)

These questions are part of a new research project, undertaken and published by Article 13, in which the authors take an in-depth look at the growing importance of employer-employee engagement.

In a study of ninety six companies with proven reputations in reporting responsible business practice and employee engagement, Article 13’s most recent piece of research sets out to answer a number of key questions; including
o What sort of employee engagement strategies are the most progressive companies currently pursuing? – and equally important, Why?
o Can a company’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda be used as a framework to enhance the engagement process and release the full potential of its people
Emerging findings included
o '29% of companies reported implementing behavioural change programmes'
o '35% of companies reported explicitly their recognition that in order to operate successfully in a global marketplace a diverse workforce was a business imperative, with thirty companies reporting the creation of employee networks.'
o '28% of companies reported ‘Ask the CEO or senior management’ question forums'
What does this mean?
o Evidence that companies are recognising that regulation and obligation represent not just a challenge but also an opportunity and that engagement can be used as a tool to increase job satisfaction and employee involvement.
o Companies are engaging with employees using a diverse array of topics. Most significantly engaging and involving employees in the business’ wider CSR agenda – evidenced by environmental champions and corporate community volunteering.
o More inclusive engagement strategies aim beyond a single measurable target and instead seek to address multi-faceted challenges
o More highly engaged companies are integrating and embedding personal and corporate values into the wider business strategy
