DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA, July 29, 2008 (FPRC) -- Shia LaBeouf start of the upcoming film 'Transfomers 2' directed by Michael Bay, has apparently been released from responsibility concerning the Sunday July 27th early morning traffic collision but the 22-year-old actor will still face misdemeanor DUI charges for signs of intoxication at the scene of the accident. Had anyone involved in the collision sustained more serious injuries, LaBeouf could have faced felony charges.

LaBeouf made headlines in November 2007 when he refused to leave a Chicago Walgreen’s and was arrested for trespassing. In an interview with David Letterman, the Times quoted the actor as saying, '…drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping…it’s just as bad.' A more recent interview with the actor in the September issue of Details magazine provided insight into LaBeouf’s behavior, most notably in reference to his relationship with his dad. 'We would drink and smoke together,' says LaBeouf. '…And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have just one.'

Problems with alcohol and drug dependency can strike anyone regardless of age, race, culture, or soci0-economic background. LaBeouf’s early exposure to alcohol through his dad and subsequent use, possibly to handle the rising pressures of star status, is not unusual. Research shows that the younger a person is when they start drinking or using, the greater likelihood he or she will become dependent upon alcohol or drugs. Contrary to popular belief, alcoholism or drug dependency does not always take years to develop. It generally begins as a way to have fun or fit in and all too often ends up as a way to cope with the pressures of life.

Most young people in their 20’s that come to SouthCoast Recovery struggle with the idea of addiction as a disease. Lifelong sobriety at such a young age seems not only improbable but impossible. 'Life is over' or 'I’ll never have fun again' are typical client remarks when they first enter the doors at SouthCoast Recovery to deal with alcohol or drug abuse issues. But at SouthCoast Recovery, it’s about living! SouthCoast Recovery is proud to be nation’s leading alcohol and drug rehab center with specialized 30, 60, 90-day and 6 month residential treatment programs in southern California. Whether or not LaBeouf will eventually need to seek treatment for his drinking remains to be seen, however, if he is dealing with the demons of alcohol abuse or drug dependency, they don’t just disappear on their own. It takes courage, dedication and the caring support of a team of professionals to help an individual recover from alcohol and drug addiction and a majority of the staff members at SouthCoast Recovery have suffered from addiction and now stand as a testament to an individual’s ability to break free.
