The Lack Of Sunshine Makes Drivers Stay Put

A study conducted by the AA has revealed that people are concerned about both the weather and their finances and as a result may not be going away.

August 24, 2008 (FPRC) -- It is not only the lack of sunshine that is driving people indoors this month, financial worries are also having an effect on what people are planning to do over the coming bank holiday weekend, research has suggested.

More than 50 per cent of drivers surveyed by the organisation said that they would not be driving at all over the weekend - and it is not only the weather that is the reason why. Fuel costs have risen from less than one pound per litre last year and Britons are now beginning to feel the pinch, the AA claims.

'At the moment, it seems that there might be fewer people driving long distances over this bank holiday weekend, but it will still be busier than your typical weekend,' said Andy Taylor of the AA. 'We would always advise drivers to make careful preparations for their journey, whether it be a last minute decision or a planned journey,' he added.

But the organisation notes that drivers may opt to stay closer to home and head for just a day trip as opposed to a full weekend away, to help keep costs down. However, people wishing to go away for a bit longer may like to consider the benefits that taking out a cheap personal loan can bring. Indeed consumers may be opting to take out loans to pay for dream holidays. A spokesperson for marriage website Hitched suggested that individuals could be choosing loans not only to get their perfect day but also to get their perfect holiday.

And with the average wedding in the UK now costing 20,000 pounds, spending on a honeymoon holiday after the big day may also be covered by a loan. But for those looking for something less extravagant, particularly over the bank holiday weekend, the AA has highlighted some of the most popular destinations across the country. Cardiff, Manchester, London, Brighton and Blackpool were noted as some of the most popular cities to visit over the long weekend, but the AA noted that as the cost of fuel has risen, the number of drivers looking to go away to these destinations has fallen.

In related news, other people feeling the effects of the credit crunch could be the student population of the country, new research has found. A recent study conducted by Halifax has indicated that more than two-fifths of students now seek employment while they are at university. As well as this, two-thirds of students said they worked during their holidays in order to help fund their ongoing education. But for those who would rather focus their efforts on their studies, opting to take out a personal loan could be one way to help cover the costs of education, as well as rent, gas and electricity bills and food expenses.
