September 17, 2008 (FPRC) -- Great Plains Productions is pleased to announce the release of their new website RediscoveringDorothy.com. This website was designed to promote a documentary film designed to reintroduce viewers to the Wizard of Oz, and trace the roots of it's main character, Dorothy Gale.
Using stunning 3-D animation, RediscoveringDorothy.com presents facts you never knew about one of the most beloved movie characters of all-time, Dorothy Gale. RediscoveringDorothy.com pulls back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz by examining the author, L. Frank Baum's life, his inspirations, and his legacy.
RedisocveringDorothy.com explores the journey of L.Frank Baum, beginning in upstate New York, working as a salesman, writer and journalist in the Midwest, and continuing his travels westward to find his fortune in Hollywood. Viewers will understand the Wizard of Oz in the context of Baum's experiences.
RediscoveringDorothy.com further explores the inspirations for Baum's works by examining the life of his mother-in law, Matilda Joslyn Gage. Gage, along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, formed the triumvirate that created the Women's Suffrage Movement. The three shared decades of activism, leadership, and friendship. However they disagreed on strategy and ultimately Gage was written out the history books. RediscoveringDorothy.com looks at what happened to force Gage out of the spotlight and how Baum used the influence of such a powerful female figure to create one of the first female propagandists in American children's literature, Dorthy Gale.
Finally RediscoveringDorothy.com examines the legacy of the Wizard of Oz. It explores how one of the most watched films in American history, influenced and continues to affect our society.. From references on the hit TV show "Lost" to Amy Whinehouse's songs; RediscoveringDorothy.com reminds us of how we all live in the land of Oz.
