October 28, 2008 (FPRC) -- Calabasas, CA. - The axis of taxes annual award, according to figures released by the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union (NTU) and FactCheck.org, has been awarded to the tax-happy triumvirate of Senator’s Barcak Obama and Harry Reid, along with Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
Every year National Taxpayers Union (NTU) rates U.S. Representatives and Senators on their actual votes—every vote that significantly affects taxes, spending, debt, and regulatory burdens on consumers and taxpayers. NTU assigns weights and eventual scores to the votes, reflecting the importance of each vote’s effect.
The Taxpayer Score measures the strength of support for reducing spending and regulation and opposing higher taxes. In general, a higher score is better because it means a Member of Congress voted to lessen or limit the burden on taxpayers. The Taxpayer Score can range between zero and 100.
According to NTU, Senator Harry Reid was rated 17%, indicating a “Big Spender” on tax votes, while Rep. Nancy Pelosi was rated 21%, which also earned NTU’s “Big Spender” designation.
Conversely, Senator John McCain was rated 72%, which earned the “satisfactory” designation by NTU. According to NTU’s thorough review of all three elected officials voting records pertaining to increasing taxes, Senator McCain best exemplified the politician who voted to lessen or limit the burden on taxpayers. Senator Obamas rating through NTU was not made available.
Couple Senator Reid and Rep Pelosi’s “Big Spender” label along with FactCheck.org’s revelation that Senator Obama voted 54 times to increase taxes, with one being a tax increase on $42k income, and it’s apparent why this trio has earned the designation of The Axis of Taxes.
When recently informed of his newly designated titled, Senator Obama gleefully retorted “I'm not bashful about it: wealthy people will pay more taxes.” According to the Senators voting record, seniors making more than $75,000 a year or more are classified as being “wealthy” and ineligible for tax relief.
