October 29, 2008 (FPRC) -- After some intense campaigning by Creditplus Car loans to reduce the cost of petrol in the UK, prices drop by 12p.
Creditplus began an email petition during the summer asking the public to support the lowering of petrol prices across the UK. The petition was handed in at 10 Downing Street in October 2008, after being sent across the internet gathering intense support from the nation.
Petrol prices rose to a massive 128.8p per litre for diesel and 115.8p per litre for petrol. This has been gratefully reduced to 115p per litre for diesel and 103p per litre for petrol since various campaigners sent in their petitions with the same support. The campaigns success has meant a release of pressure hitting the consumer markets during the credit crunch.
The UK has been hit the hardest by the petrol price increases, with a rise of 20% compared to the rest of Europe which only rose by 14% or lower.
The old prices were unsustainable to the individual, given that UK residents are already the highest tax payers in Europe.
Managing Director of Creditplus, Shaun Armstrong said: 'We wanted to use our position to help the consumer market, and with a large customer base facilitated a united front. We had no idea the response would be so huge.'
This news comes as a positive welcome to consumers throughout the UK, as it seems that despite the economic downturn, petrol prices have come down to stay.
