November 25, 2008 (FPRC) -- To aid the employment of facility professionals across all states in US, EmploymentCrossing recently launched FacilitiesCrossing, a niche job board that brings together every facility job opening from all across the nation.
Pasadena, CA — Facility professionals plan, design, and manage buildings, grounds, equipment, and supplies, in addition to people. This task requires integrating the principles of business administration, information technology, architecture, engineering, and behavioral science. Although the specific tasks assigned to facility managers vary substantially depending on the organization, the duties fall into several categories, relating to operations and maintenance, real estate, project planning and management, leadership and communication, and management of human and environmental factors.
To aid the employment of facility professionals across all states in US, EmploymentCrossing recently launched FacilitiesCrossing (www.facilitiescrossing.com), a niche job board that brings together every facility job opening from all across the nation. As part of the EmploymentCrossing job-site family, FacilitiesCrossing seeks to list every job for facility professionals in the United States in one convenient location. Using proprietary technology, FacilitiesCrossing monitors job postings for facility professionals on other job websites and from other sources to display every job for facility professionals that it can find.
''FacilitiesCrossing’s goal is nothing less than to show facility job seekers every job available,'' says A. Harrison Barnes, founder and CEO of FacilitiesCrossing.
''Facility managers and professionals continually monitor various facilities to ensure that it remains safe, secure, and well-maintained. Often, the facility manager is responsible for directing staff, including maintenance, grounds, and custodial workers. The demand for such professionals has been great, hence I thought of coming up with a site reserved for such professionals,'' says Barnes.
According to the results of a new International Facility Management Association (IFMA) survey, majority of facility professionals are looking forward to implement sustainable practices and tying their goals to business strategies and the like. The survey, which was conducted on 573 facility managers, supervisors, and professionals, from around the world, examined the forces driving sustainability, the green practices being employed, and the challenges facility managers face in implementing sustainable initiatives. The study also throws light on food service operational facilities. It has been revealed through the survey that facility managers turn to sustainable purchasing, such as reducing shipping distance for food products, and tray-less cafeterias, which discourage excess waste, along with recycling and changes in packaging foodstuffs. The survey also shows that the biggest impediment to ''going green'' for facility professionals is purely of financial nature, although many strive to be associated with energy and recycling initiatives.
On the employment front, the outlook for facility professionals is good enough, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics report. The report states that the profession is expected to grow at about 12% over the 2006-2016 decade. Demand is expected to be strong for facility managers who give adequate importance to cost cutting measures, without letting down on maintaining, securing, and efficiently operating their facilities. Competition is expected to be less for lower-level facility jobs than top-level management jobs.
''The recession has severely affected the statistics which were projected by several reports before. The economy is taking a toll on jobs of administrative service managers and facility professionals, but there are avenues still unexplored.'' says Barnes.
The CEO of FacilitiesCrossing adds ''Mostly, it is where facility professionals look for jobs that matters a lot while starting out their career. FacilitiesCrossing is the solution to all their problems. The site aims to list all types of facility jobs, as well as to provide details on career advancement opportunities and employment information related to a variety of industries,'' adds Barnes.
FacilitiesCrossing charges $29.95 a month to view its job-opening research. The facility job board also offers a free, seven-day trial to allow facility job seekers to familiarize themselves with the service.
