YWCA Dayton Announces Used Cell Phone Collection Drive

Used cell phones help support domestic violence shelter programs.

December 8, 2008 (FPRC) -- The YWCA Dayton announces the expansion of our cell phone fundraising program. Proceeds from the collection efforts will be applied to our Shelter Services programs.

"Donating a used, unwanted cell phone allows community members to donate to an important cause without reaching into their wallets," stated Matt Sauls, Director of Facilities. "With the hundreds of thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community, the fundraising potential is almost limitless."

The YWCA Dayton has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), a Miramar, Florida firm that specializes in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising programs through the collection and responsible recycling of used cellular phones. Cell phones are currently being accepted for drop off at the YWCA Dayton located at 141 West Third Street in Downtown Dayton at the corner of Third and Wilkinson Streets.

The YWCA Dayton is additionally soliciting local businesses to initiate collection campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors. We encourage businesses of all types to participate in this program. For more information, please contact Angie Hoschouer at 937-461-5550 x179 or visit the YWCA Dayton website at www.ywcadayton.org.

The YWCA Dayton operates the only 24/7 emergency shelter for Domestic Violence victims in Montgomery County. The YW also provides on site advocacy and support for survivors of domestic violence. Help is available 24 hours a day on the Domestic Violence Hotline at (937) 222-7233 (SAFE). Additionally, the YW operates a homeless women’s shelter, the HOMESHARE program for women and their children needing affordable housing with support services and life skills training and SAFE HAVEN, an innovative permanent housing program for chronically homeless women.

The YWCA Dayton has a 138-year legacy of service to women and children who have turned to it in their darkest hours seeking comfort and the opportunity to rebuild their broken lives. Every day, its team addresses the most crucial needs in our community, including: domestic violence; homelessness; teen issues; childcare; affordable housing; racial justice; and self sufficiency and personal development for women.
