January 11, 2009 (FPRC) -- Miracles Do Happen, a three-hanky family story, has been put up for auction on Ebay by Avondale Film and Television. The screenplay, written for and owned by an independent film company, was slated for production in 2008 before the economy headed south.

Miracles Do Happen is the story of a suburban American family struggling through hard times. Carl is a laid off engineer, Diane owns a day care center rapidly going broke, but though down on their luck, they have each other and their 3 kids. After a joyrider hits Mark placing him in a coma, the family is thrust from one disaster to the next. They have no insurance and cannot afford much of Mark’s needed treatment. Not knowing whether Mark will pull through, they also find themselves about to lose their home to foreclosure. Carl even loses his temporary job because he and Diane take turns standing at Mark's bedside. Six year old Emily finds a wallet in the hospital parking lot just before Christmas containing enough cash to temporarily save their house. After arguing with a shopping center Santa (whom Emily believes is the real thing) Carl struggles through his version of Marley’s ghost, and, in the middle of the night, he and Emily return the wallet. And ...

According to a Hollywood reviewer's coverage, 'This script does a very good job of weaving a sentimental Christmas story from a family tragedy. Dramatic Christmas movies need mawkish sentiment that might sink other genres, but such over-the-top sentimentality is welcome when it comes to this genre. One thing a good Christmas drama has to be is a monster tear-jerker and this one does that very well.'

'Times are tough and indie film companies are struggling,' says Mel Klein, president of Avondale Film and Television. Projects that were greenlighted a few months ago are now in serious doubt that interim financing has dried up. 'The only way to move a script like this in a tight market,' say Klein, 'is through aggressive and unconventional methods. Ebay sells almost everything in a worldwide auction marketplace. It’s the perfect vehicle for high quality but troubled entertainment properties.' The company that owns the Miracles Do Happen screenplay is a client of Avondale Film and Television, a specialty boutique that since its inception three years ago has focused on distressed entertainment properties.

In order to control access to the script, registration by email is required. Copies of the screenplay and auction instructions will be delivered to qualified interested bidders in time to participate in the auction. The auction closes February 2nd, just after the end of the Sundance Film Festival. Telephone calls will only be accepted from qualified persons after they’ve received the script. The request for the screenplay is available at www.AvondaleFilm.com .Inquiries about this auction and Avondale Film’s other projects may be addressed to AvondaleFilm@ymail.com
