January 25, 2009 (FPRC) -- Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- Three months of traveling through Europe; 7, 033 km by planes, trains, buses and automobiles; more than 50 skateboards collectively, thirty hours of footage; and countless hours of editing time have netted an impressive first effort video from 20-year-old David Hnatiuk.
A passionate skateboarder, artist and multi-media student of Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Canada, Hnatiuk made his dream of 'skating' through Europe a reality in April, 2008. With his Canon GL2 camera, Century Optics MKII Deathlens and the first of several skateboards he would burn through, Hnatiuk boarded a plane for Barcelona, Spain and an adventure that formed the basis for his video.
The Very Brilliant European Skateboard Adventure hits famous European sites and a few Canadian ones too.
Entitled 'The Very Brilliant European Skateboard Adventure,' the video highlights well-known spots frequented by skaters in Barcelona, Spain (MACBA, Paral-lel, Fondo); Lyon and Paris, France (Bercy in Paris); London, England (Southbank), Copenhagen, Denmark; and Prague, Czech Republic (Stallon Square).
Featured skaters are David Hnatiuk, Karl Dickson, Michael Halls, Taig Hedges, Caveh Ahmadi, Jon Whalen, and 'the French Assassins.'
'Without the help and influence of the people I met along the way, none of this would have been possible. In releasing this video, I hope to encourage more skateboarders to travel and see these unique destinations in a way that the average tourist never does,' says Hnatiuk.
Hnatiuk has included video shot on Canadian turf from Toronto and London, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta. As an added bonus, the DVD also has two montages of extra footage.
The teaser has been featured on www.skateperception.com and Transworld (www.skateboarding.com). It can be viewed at www.skateboardlondon.com.
The Very Brilliant European Skateboard Adventure will premiere on January 31, 2009 at The Arts Project (www.artsproject.ca), 203 Dundas Street, London, Ontario at 6 pm. Tickets are $5.00. Video copies cost $15.00 (plus shipping).
