January 27, 2009 (FPRC) -- The public is being urged to check their shelves for any of more than 125 products now at risk of carrying the salmonella bacteria. A list of products containing contaminated peanut butter or paste has been issued by the FDA; that list contains dog biscuits, snack bars, Asian sauces, candies and cookies.

This news bulletin is being issued by the Federation of American Consumers and Travelers (FACT) as part of its on-going efforts to keep its members -- and the public in general -- aware of any matter which can seriously affect their lives.

FACT is a not-for-profit association which was founded in 1984 and which provides a variety of benefits -- ranging from medical insurance and dental care discounts to prescription drug savings and timely consumer information -- for more than 1 million Americans.

Vicki Rolens, managing director of FACT, says: “At this time, the FDA reports there is no indication that any national name-brand jars of peanut butter sold in retail stores are linked to the recall. We suggest, however, that the consumer check the Web site or to call the toll-free number listed on peanut butter packaging to get updates from the manufacturer.”
