Features artwork from the Divine Comedy and Biblia Sacra

June 23, 2009 (FPRC) -- Park West Gallery recently launched two videos on the Park West YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/ParkWestGallery, showcasing the artwork of the Surrealist Master, Salvador Dali. One video features Divine Comedy imagery while the other features imagery from the Biblia Sacra (Sacred Bible); all of the artwork comes from the Park West Dali Collection. The videos give viewers an opportunity to enjoy Dali artwork in a unique way; the works are shown one after the other, each one seemingly morphing into the next, all set to music that perfectly complements the imagery.

The Divine Comedy, an epic poem written by famed Italian poet Dante Alighieri, was illustrated in 100 watercolor paintings created by Dali between 1951 and 1960. Under the supervision of Dali, these watercolors were interpreted into 100 color wood engravings between 1960 and 1964. Limited editions of the Divine Comedy, complete with Dali graphic works, were published by Les Heures Claires, Paris. The 100 engravings were created from over 3000 wood blocks, all of which were destroyed when the project was completed.

The Biblia Sacra suite consists of 105 color mixed-technique lithographs after 105 watercolor paintings created by Dali between 1963 and 1964. Each Biblia Sacra was comprised of five volumes, bound in richly tooled leather, containing the text of the Bible along with the 105 lithographs. Dr. Giuseppe Albaretto, Dali's longtime friend and patron, arranged to have the Biblia Sacra published by Rizzoli Editions of Mediolani, Italy with himself as the editor. The unique combination of multiple printing techniques gives the lithographs a richness and depth that resulted in works that are exceptionally faithful to the original paintings on which they were based.

To gain a better understanding of the history behind these works and the Park West Dali Collection, visit the recently launched Park West Gallery Salvador Dali website at www.parkwest-dali.com.
