August 4, 2009 (FPRC) -- Parsippany, NJ - Richard Hennion (http://www.hennionandwalsh.com) of Hennion & Walsh received the third annual Humanitarian Award from Do-Good House (http://www.do-goodhouse.org) for his efforts in helping to raise more than $37,000 for student scholarships during these tough economic times. Do-Good House, a Totowa based organization, is doing its best to help make college dreams a reality for as many local students as possible.

“To be able to help raise these funds, especially in this economy, really makes you appreciate the generosity of people,” said Richard Hennion (http://www.hennionandwalsh.com/about_h&w_founders_note.html), a founding partner of Hennion & Walsh, Inc., an asset management firm in Parsippany. “We're looking forward to doing even more in the coming year with even larger donations.”

This charitable work by Hennion & Walsh is only one of a long list of activities they participate in to give back to the local community and beyond. Recently, Hennion, a Wayne native, and nearly 350 others congregated to watch eight amateur matches in the first live boxing event held at The Brownstone, a landmark in Paterson, a city with a long, rich history in this sport. They raised more than $5,000 apiece for three charities — St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Paterson, Mount St. Joseph Home for Boys and Girls in Totowa, and Do-Good House.

The list also includes Hennion & Walsh’s yearly sponsorship of the Jackson’s Annual Mulligan on Life Golf Outing that raises money and awareness for organ donation. In addition, the asset management firm sponsors an annual Blood Drive, and their team participates in numerous charitable 5K runs through the year.

“Our charitable actions embody the firm’s mission to help the individual. For individual investors, we strive to be their fiercest, most passionate advocate, providing volumes of free educational material through investment guides, educational webinars, seminars and online content to help them make better investment decisions. And we carry that care for the individual out into the community through our charitable work,” continues Hennion.

Hennion & Walsh (http://www.hennionandwalsh.com), a full service brokerage firm specializing in municipal bonds, was founded in 1990 by Richard Hennion and Bill Walsh. The firm has built its reputation on developing strong, mutually beneficial relationships designed to last a lifetime, serving over 15,000 clients with brokerage accounts and managed portfolios. They are committed to providing individual investors with the institutional-quality service and guidance they believe they are entitled to.

The firm also developed and manages the SmartGrowth Mutual Funds, three risk-target-based mutual funds. All three funds were named as Category Kings in October 2008 and January 2009 in the all cap core category as reported in the Wall Street Journal (October 2, 2008 and January 5, 2009 editions / WSJ lists top-performing funds in each category, ranked by one-year total returns (changes in net assets with reinvested distributions) as of the end of a respective quarter). Hennion & Walsh’s Chief Investment Officer, Kevin Mahn, manages the portfolios of SmartGrowth Mutual funds which utilize ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) as a core part of their investing strategy.
