Pastor to Ride Mountain Bike from Michigan to Alabama to Raise Funds for New Building

August 17, 2009 (FPRC), Warren, Michigan -- With the economy slowly recovering, and parishioners still contributing less, United New Testament Church Associate Pastor Kevin Petersmarck of Warren, Michigan has turned to creativity and determination to help raise funds for a much needed new building.
Kevin will be joined by his best friend Dan, who will be flying in from Seattle to begin the ride in Warren on October 15th. They are currently in training at their respective homes to ride mountain bikes 725 miles from Michigan to Alabama to raise funds for the United New Testament Church and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ along the way. They plan to arrive at the Church's Annual Convention held in Alabama on November 2, 2009.
The church embraced the idea, and immediately began a "name that ride" contest within its membership. Steven Spence of Brunswick, Georgia submitted the winning entry, "Tour de Christ: Pedaling for Purpose".
"We are asking for a donation of a penny per mile... that's only $7.25. If enough people like what we're doing (taking the initiative to creatively meet the needs of our church) and will contribute this small amount, we will easily be able to meet our goal of $20,000.00 and can begin pursuing our goal of securing a much needed larger headquarters building.", says Rev. Kevin. "We are also asking churches along our route to house us overnight at various stops along our journey."
The team will be uploading daily video and text blogs during the 2 week excursion on the cause's website, www.tourdechrist.org.
The United New Testament Church is a growing association of independent Christian ministers from across the globe, dedicated to the Matthew 28 scripture asking all Christians to actively minister the Gospel in their local communities.
