October 15, 2009 (FPRC) -- OXNARD, CA – The Gene Haas Foundation has donated a total of 11 grants to the Ventura County non-profit organization Food Share from 2001 to 2008. These grants totaled $63,100 and go towards helping Food Share pick up, store and distribute the millions of pounds of food they give to those in need each year.
“It’s terrible to think there are children and entire families without enough food to eat in a country as rich as ours. Thankfully, we have groups like the Ventura County Food Share, which is working hard to eliminate hunger in the area. The Gene Haas Foundation wants to do what it can to ensure they can continue their good work and eliminate hunger,” said officials of the Gene Haas Foundation.
Food Share, the USDA commodity distribution agency for food and funding, holds a number of different fundraisers and activities to collect food and financial donations for families in need. With help from the California Association of Food Banks, Kern County, and an additional 155 partners, Food Share holds and distributes millions of pounds of food to thousands of Ventura County families in need.
In addition to operating traditional food banks, Food Share and its partners host meal sites, distribute brown bag meals, give food to military families, and supply children in afterschool programs with healthy snacks. During the holiday season, they collect special donations to ensure that all families can enjoy a traditional holiday meal.
Founded in 1999, the Gene Haas Foundation has given more than $8.5 million to over 800 non-profit organizations and charities since funding their first charity in 2001. These organizations promote a number of causes, including health programs, educational endeavors, the health and welfare of children, safety, and emergency care.
