October 29, 2009 (FPRC) -- LA QUINTA, CA -- With the launch of the My Army Hero Photo Contest, friends and family can honor their Army soldier and win patriotic gifts for their hero. Hosted by Army jobs and information site Army.net, the contest asks the public to send in a photo of their Army hero as well as a short essay explaining why the soldier is their personal hero.

Each personal Army hero will be commemorated with a dedicated full-page display featuring his or her photo and hero essay. Friends and family are encouraged to add comments to show love, honor, and appreciation for the Army heroes in their lives.

In addition to the honor and pride of a dedicated hero page on the popular Army.net website, contestants also have the opportunity to win patriotic prizes to present to their heroes. One winner will receive a handsome Army insignia wristwatch engraved with a personal message. Another winner will receive an Army insignia photo frame and collectable Army Challenge Coin.

The Army Hero Photo Contest offers two ways to win prizes. One winner will be chosen by the highest number of supporting 'votes' posted in the comments section of their hero page. Participants can also gain entries to win a random drawing by promoting their hero or the contest on websites, blogs, forums, Facebook, Twitter, and other online forums.

Complete details about the contest are available at: http://www.army.net/army-hero-photo-and-essay-contest/.

"Our goal was with the My Army Hero Photo Contest is to honor those in the Army who have, or still do, bravely serve and protect. Those who serve and who have served in the US Army and other military branches have given us the freedoms we enjoy today -- and we want to do our part to honor them," says Larry Fowler of Army.net.

Everyone is encouraged to nominate a US Army service person either currently serving or retired. Heroes can be Army enlisted, Army Officers, and those serving in the Army Reserses.
