Key West Diving Seeing Cooler Temperatures but High Water Visibility

December 21, 2009 (FPRC) -- Travelers visiting Key West this winter season should expect cooler temperatures than normal but water visibility that is as high as ever. The premier center for Key West diving trips, the Key West Dive Center, reports that temperatures in the low 60s have not been that uncommon this winter but the weather change has done little to affect visibility on Key West scuba diving excursions.
One of the troubles with winter are the higher winds and several days of poor visibility. This year is off to a good start and, if that is any indication, the rest of winter might be a little chillier than usual but the winds will remain calm and the seas will remain clear. This is great news to anyone coming down to the island for a Key West scuba diving excursion or even a Key West snorkeling trip.
This is particularly good news for the Key West snorkeling trips, since these trips keep the snorkeler at the surface of the water. Most snorkeling trips go to coral reef gardens that lie in 8-20 feet of water. The clearer the water, the more marine life snorkelers get to witness.
As far as the cooler temperatures go, this is not too much of a deterrent to most people going on Key West diving trips. For one thing, most people can become accustomed to the water in just a few minutes. You do also have the option of renting wet suits. The water rarely gets colder than the high 60's, which is mild compared to other scuba diving destinations in other areas of world.
This winter, the Key West Dive Center is running two Key West scuba diving trips daily. The morning trip heads to the recently-sunk USS Vandenberg followed by a stop along the extensive coral reef system of Key West. The afternoon trips goes to two distinct areas of the coral reef. The center also runs a variety of instruction and certification courses, Key West snorkeling excursions, and dolphin trips.
