January 5, 2010 (FPRC) -- The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and Solarpower.org have teamed up to install solar panels on schools around the country through their new Bloggers for Solar Schools program.

The Bloggers for Solar Schools Program starts online, by reaching out to blogs and websites that want to get involved and help spread the word about solar power. By simply placing a badge or banner supporting Solar Schools on their site, bloggers and webmasters can accomplish 2 things: Showing their support for Solar Schools to their readers – and – generating funding for the FEE’s Solar Schools Project. SolarPower.org has pledged to donate $10.00 USD to the FEE’s Solar Schools Project each time a blog or website places the badge on their site to join the cause. The badges display the total amount raised by the project to date and the total is updated each time a new site or blog joins the effort.

One hundred percent of the funds raised are put toward the FEE’s Solar Schools project. The Solar Schools project aims to teach kids and communities about the benefits of solar energy. The schools receive a working solar power installation which compensates a portion of energy used by the school. In addition, data collection systems are provided to teach students about solar. By installing ground mounted panels on poles in high traffic areas, the systems stay top of mind and are easily accessible as an important teaching tool.

Solarpower.org is operated by Cooler Planet, and is a leading resource for people to learn about the benefits of solar energy. The site covers everything from the positive environmental effects of reducing carbon emissions, to how much money can be saved over the lifetime of the system, to making sure a particular home is a good candidate for solar power.
