Gene Haas Gives $101,000 to the Ventura College Foundation

February 1, 2010 (FPRC) -- OXNARD, CA -- Gene Haas knows tuition fees make it difficult or even impossible for many of the nation's young people to continue their education after high school. While little can be done about the steadily increasing fees or the constant fall of family incomes, Gene Haas has made it a little easier for students from low-income homes to achieve their dreams.

From 2003 to 2008, the charity foundation created by Gene Haas gave the Ventura College Foundation's 'Promise Foundation' program six separate grants totaling $101,000. A large portion of this money went specifically to scholarships for low-income household students. To qualify for these scholarships and relieve some of the financial pressures of further education during their first year of school, students simply have to show that their family makes $85,000 or less per year, undergo an English and Math assessment, make an educational plan, and have a definite goal. In return, qualified recipients will have their entire tuition paid for the first year.

"It's unfair to think that so many children never get a chance to get ahead, improve their lifestyles, and achieve their dreams of becoming whatever their heart desires. If the passion, interest, and desire are there, money should never be an issue. This is our way of preventing this from happening," said officials from the Gene Haas Foundation.

The Ventura College Foundation, the Promise program, and Gene Haas are all proud supporters of education and believe it's the key to improving our world and that education breeds opportunity and success.

Gene Haas' charitable organization supports children, families, and the community in other ways as well. Since it first started supporting other organizations, Haas has given over 800 organizations more than $8.5 million. These include organizations such as Food Share, the American Red Cross, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the National MS Society, and many more.
