February 3, 2010 (FPRC) -- Camp O-AT-KA is offering, for the first time this year, a very specialized boys’ camp program for teenage boys, aged 15-16, seeking the ultimate summer experience. This program will combine the best of high adventure and community service into a three week package sure to enhance summers for a small group of young men.

Ron Hall, Executive Director of Camp O-AT-KA says, 'We are indeed excited to be offering this unique three-week program to 15 & 16 year old Boys. Our new Adventure Program provides the boys an exciting and unique experience. During the three weeks the ten participants will have many opportunities to work as a team, develop leadership skills, develop greater self-confidence and have FUN. '

Camp O-AT-KA will be offering two unique and very special three week sessions for only 10 young men per session. Each three week session will be split into three very distinct programs that combine the best of high adventure and community service.

Week one starts with a group meeting and team building exercises. The group then travels to Knight’s Cove on John’s Bay in South Bristol, Maine, where they will enjoy a more traditional camping experience including hiking, kayaking, cooking, fire building, and general campsite care.

Week two takes the boys on a trip to the White Mountains where they will find themselves assisting on a trail crew for the Appalachian Mountain Club. This portion of the adventure is community service oriented. For the boys it will entail learning about giving back to the community, getting dirty, but learning to understand the personal rewards and growth that comes with giving in a meaningful way.

The third week is a whole new level of adventure as the team travels back to the coast of Maine for a four day sailing trip aboard a 65 foot two-masted schooner. The boys will be encouraged to participate in the sailing of the schooner, learning skills like raising sails, setting anchor and polishing brass. While boys will have inside bunks, they will be free to sleep out on the deck with the crew under the stars.

Camp O-AT-KA has been a favorite summer camp destination for boys aged 8-16 for over 100 years. Located just 40 miles from Portland, Maine, and boasting one half mile of shoreline on Lake Sebago and 100 wooded acres, it was selected as one of the top ten youth camps by Family Life Magazine.
