February 3, 2010 (FPRC) -- Generations of youngsters have enjoyed the story of Pee-Wee Harris. Classic CD Books speaks new life into the original 1922 novel with an audio version. 'Pee-Wee Harris' is the first of multi-million selling author Percy Keese Fitzhugh’s books to be produced in audio. Hailing from Hackensack, New Jersey, Fitzhugh was one of the most popular children’s authors of his day (1876-1950).
His books were designed to promote the Scouts and encourage boys to join what was then a new movement. Like the Scouts, the books emphasize adventure, responsibility, and service to others, while presenting well-crafted plots marked with humor and innocent fun.
In the seminal novel, the diminutive but debonair Pee-Wee visits his uncle's farm from his hometown of Bridgeboro, New Jersey, and follows through on his idea of starting a refreshment shack along the country road. Sales are slow until the highway bridge mysteriously burns down and the road becomes a thoroughfare, leading to a series of madcap adventures.
Boys' Life, the official magazine of the Scouts, has been featuring the 'Pee-Wee Harris' character in a monthly comic strip for over 50 years.
The abridged audio book is available at retailers nationwide as a 3-CD set, and also via digital download, in time for the 100th anniversary of Scouting on February 8, 2010.
Born near Bridgeboro, NJ, narrator Erik Sellin is a former Scout and the father of a soon-to-be Cub Scout. He has performed numerous audio books.
