April 29, 2010 (FPRC) -- Dem-Con Companies, an innovator in construction and demolition recycling and shingle grinding, today announced that its chief executive officer, Jason Haus, has joined the board of the Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA) and has been named chair of the newly formed Shingle Recycling Committee.

“CMRA plays an important role in C&D recycling industry, legislation and rule-making and I am honored to be invited to the board and to chair the newly formed committee,” said Jason Haus, chief executive officer, Dem-Con Companies. “The new Shingle Recycling Committee is a direct response to member and community interest in this area of C&D.”

The CMRA represents a diverse group of member companies and agencies promoting the safe and economically feasible recycling of the more than 325 million tons of recoverable construction and demolition (C&D) materials that are generated in the U.S. annually. These materials include aggregates such as concrete, asphalt, asphalt shingles, gypsum wallboard, wood and metals.

Shingle grinding and recycling yields an inexpensive alternative to virgin asphalt and can be found in abundance in landfills,” says Haus. “With our efforts, we endeavor to provide a cost-effective solution for industry while promoting stewardship of the earth.”

Dem-Con Shingle Processing is a company developed to recover shingles resulting from the manufacturing process as well as tear-off shingles from homes. Tens of thousands of tons are currently buried in landfills each year and Dem-Con Shingle Processing is working to recover and provide alternative uses for this material to reduce reliance on virgin asphalt. Dem-Con works with many government and other organizations to develop equipment, specifications and end-use options for this material. The company, which will recycle more than 25,000 tons of shingles in 2010, offers local and mobile shingle grinding services.
