July 19, 2010 (FPRC) -- The tourism sector in the famous casino city of Macau is gearing up for even higher visitor numbers on and around 18 August, the date of the traditional Feast of Maidens. The seventh lunar month’s seventh day will see parades and firework displays as well as street music and entertainment, parades, dining and drinking.
The tragically romantic theme of the legend, star crossed lovers, appeals equally to couples and singles Hotel bookings, already high due to Macau’s casinos, history and tourist attractions, soar at this time, making booking well ahead the only way to make sure of a room.
The legend tells of the weaver princess Tchek Noi and her lover, cowherd Ngau Long. The king allowed them to marry, but insisted that they kept their jobs. Understandingly, once they were wed, other priorities took over and the pair neglected their work. The king banished them to the Milky Way, only allowing them to meet for one day each year by crossing a star bridge formed by the world’s magpies.
